What I know...What we know

A habit I’ve developed in the morning is to write out my blessings. It allows me to begin the day with gratitude. King David in Psalm 103 reminds us not to forget about what God has given us, Psalm 103:1-5.

I also write out are things that I want. It’s great to be able to revisit lists from earlier in the year to see what’s been accomplished.

A third list I’ve recently added to my morning routine is what I know. Specifically, things I know about God. This is helping me with my walk with Christ in a world of uncertainty and keeping my mind on things above, not below. What I know is what every Christian also knows because the Bible tells us so.

I know God loves me. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” John 3:16

I know Jesus loves me. “My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father; Jesus Christ the righteous; and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world.” 1 John 2:1-2

I know the Holy Spirit loves me. “In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness: for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.” Romans 8:26

I know the Bible is true. “…It seemed fitting for me as well, having investigated everything carefully from the beginning, to write it out for you in consecutive order, most excellent Theophilus; so that you may know the exact truth about the things you have been taught.” Luke 1:3-4

I know Jesus is risen. “For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve…” 1 Corinthians 15:3-5.

I know I’ve been forgiven and can continue to be forgiven. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness…” 1 John 1:9.

I know by grace I’m saved through faith. “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God.” Ephesians 2:8.

I know heaven is real. “Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great… Matthew 5:10-11

I know hell is real. “…But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye makes you stumble, tear it out and throw it from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.” Matthew 5:28

I know I can enjoy my labor and life, Ecclesiastes 9:7-9.

I know I will die one day, and be judged, Hebrews 9:27-28.

I know I have eternal life through Jesus. “These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.” 1 John 5:13

It’s easy to focus on what we don’t know. It’s better to focus on what we do know.
