Tomorrow

It can be easy to live in “Tomorrow.” We can become consumed with the cares of the world, worry about the future, which can cause us to miss out on the blessings of “Today.”

What does the Bible have to say about tomorrow? Consider a few passages to see what we can learn. “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Matthew 6:34

“Come now, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit.’ Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away. Instead, you ought to say, ‘If the Lord wills, we will live and also do this or that.’ But as it is, you boast in your arrogance; all such boasting is evil. Therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin.” James 4:13-17

“Tomorrow go down against them. Behold, they will come up by the ascent of Ziz, and you will find them at the end of the valley in front of the wilderness of Jeruel. You need not fight in this battle; station yourselves, stand and see the salvation of the LORD on your behalf, O Judah and Jerusalem. Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out to face them, for the LORD is with you.” 2 Chronicles 20:17

From these passages, what did you learn about tomorrow? A few things I learned.

·      We are not to worry about tomorrow. It does not mean we cannot plan for tomorrow, but Jesus says not to worry about tomorrow. While we may have concerns (Paul did 2 Cor. 11:28) there’s a big difference between worry and concern.

·      While we may plan for the tomorrow, there is still no guarantee that those plans will come to pass. This is something we must acknowledge. When we do, it will help to alleviate being consumed with worry. Therefore, our trust always must be in God.

·      Jehoshaphat and Judah were afraid as their enemies were about to come against them. But God told them what they were to do “Tomorrow.” We must face tomorrow as well. How do we face tomorrow when we are afraid? We do it with God’s strength.  Are you afraid of something in the future? Know that the Lord is with you. Face tomorrow with great faith.
