The apostle Paul in the book of Ephesians reminded the saints what God had done for them.
1. “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ…” Ephesians 1:3
2. “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace which He lavished on us…” Ephesians 1:7-8
3. “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God.” Ephesians 2:8
4. “…Remember that you were at that time separate from Christ, excluded from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promises, having no hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who formerly were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.” Ephesians 2:12-13
Through Christ we have all spiritual blessings, redemption, and hope! Paul didn’t stop at merely considering the blessings we have. He also reminded the saints of who they were to be as a result.
1. They were to no longer walk as the Gentiles did, Ephesians 4:17-21. There was to be a change!
2. We are to do the same. Our former days of living in sin are over! We are new creatures in Christ.
So, what will that look like for us?
· We are honest, Ephesians 4:25. We tell the truth. Truth is always our friend. The devil is a liar and is the father of lies! Our Heavenly Father is holy and true! Let us speak the truth on every occasion. The days of lying is over.
· We control our anger, Ephesians 4:26-27. The days of uncontrolled anger are over.
· We work hard, Ephesians 4:28. We work hard as unto the Lord to provide for our families, and to be able to assist others. The days of laziness and selfishness are over.
· We guard our tongue, Ephesians 4:29. Our speech now is seasoned with salt, with love, with kindness. The days of evil, unkind speech are over.
· We love, are kind, and forgiving, Ephesians 4:31-32. The days of holding a grudge and not forgiving are over.
We are Christians. We are the people of God! Therefore, let us be imitators of God, Ephesians 5:1-2. The days of living in sin are over!
