The Wonders of God

King David often reflected upon the great wonders of God. In Psalm 40:5 David said, “You have multiplied, O LORD my God, your wondrous deeds and your thoughts toward us; none can compare with you! I will proclaim and tell of them, yet they are more than can be told.” There were others in the Psalms who did the same. In Psalm 77 Asaph said, “I shall remember the deeds of the LORD; Surely I will remember Your wonders of old, I will meditate on all your work and muse on your deeds. Your way, O God, is holy; What god is great like our God? These men took a step back to stand in awe of God.
They appreciated their relationship with God. How often do we consider the wonders (power, wisdom, deeds) of God? We are to love God with all our heart. To do so requires we know some things about Him. What are some of the wonders of God we should consider? Consider God’s creation in the beginning! David spoke about what happened in the beginning when he said, “The heavens are telling of the glory of God; and their expanse is declaring the work of His hands. Day to day pour forth speech, and night to night reveals knowledge, Psalm 19:1-2.” When we consider what God did in the beginning, we will continue to be amazed. The earth is finely tuned and is balanced on a razor’s edge for life to exist. There’s a saying in real estate where people emphasize location, location, location.
The same could be said concerning the earth. The earth has the perfect distance from the sun (93,000,000 miles away). If it were 5% closer to the sun, temperatures would rise to 900 Fahrenheit. If the earth was 20% further away from the sun it would become too cold. The earth is the perfect distance from the moon at 239,000 miles. It gives light in the night. It’s the basis of our monthly timekeeping, as it cycles every 29 ½ days. It causes ocean tides to rise and fall, pulling Earth just enough to cause the oceans to circulate which results in the “cleansing” of the ocean and the absorption of needed oxygen to support their many life forms. What’s the point? What God created is just right for human existence.
The earth and universe did not happen by accident! We see God and His power when we consider the wonder of His creation. Paul said it like this in Romans 1:20: “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.” When we take the time to consider wonders of God it will help us to remember His power, wisdom, majesty, love for us, and why we should worship Him!
