Thanksgiving never ends

Are you full? I sure am! I hope you had a great Thanksgiving. As a child, I loved the time off from school due to this holiday.  I have so many memories of gathering with family at my granny’s house and eating tons of food. We had a great Thanksgiving this year. It’s a blessing to have family around and to share food together.

It seems like Thanksgiving Holiday gets shorter and shorter. Before Thursday ends there are television ads for Christmas. There is pressure from online stores to start black Friday shopping early. It appears at times that there are fewer decorations for Thanksgiving than there is for Halloween and Christmas. Many already have their Christmas lights up.

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, so I am biased at times. I also know for many that Christmas is their favorite holiday, so there’s an excitement to prepare for it.

Whatever we may feel regarding Thanksgiving, it shouldn’t change how we feel about the idea of being thankful.  While this holiday is one day a year, we should have hearts of thanksgiving every day. The apostle Paul reminded the saints to be thankful in (Colossians 3:15): “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful.”

Because of Christ, it’s possible to be thankful every day. When we allow Christ to rule in our hearts and consider what He has done for us, we will be thankful. When we abide in His will, it will be easy for us to be thankful. When Christ rules in our hearts our thankfulness will be evident in our worship. Consider what Paul says in (Colossians 3:16): “Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.”

Our Heavenly Father wants us to worship Him with a heart of thanksgiving. The more we worship God, the more we will be thankful because we will be reminded of what Christ has done for us.

How can we make Thanksgiving last?

1.     Fill our hearts with God’s word.

2.     Worship the Lord.

3.     Be Doers of the word and not merely hearers.
