Our Bible from this past week was from (Psalm 117-Psalm 119:48). We will read the rest of (Psalm 119) this week. As you read, consider what you learn about God’s word. The Psalmist understood the importance of God’s word and how to use it. What can we learn from him?
· Psalm 119:1 “How blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the LORD.” If we want to live a blessed life, listen, and obey God’s word. Remember, this is how Psalms chapter one began as well.
· Psalm 119:9-11: “How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to Your word. With all my heart I have sought you; Do not let me wander from your commandments. Your word I have treasured in my heart, that I may not sin against you.” It is possible to live in a pure and righteous way. Jesus reminds us that those who are pure in heart will be blessed (Matthew 5:8). The way we can live this way is by treasuring God’s word in our hearts. Some translations say, “Thy word I have hid in my heart…” To treasure or to hide God’s word in our hearts, means that we must be in His word, a lot. When we are constantly dwelling on God’s word, our aim will be to please Him and not the flesh.
· Psalm 119:14: “I have rejoiced in the way of your testimonies, as much as in all riches.” This is a challenging verse. Is this true for us? Do we enjoy reading God’s word? Do we enjoy hearing God’s word preached? Do we enjoy sharing God’s word? The Psalmist did.
· Psalm 119:59: “I considered my ways and turned my feet to your testimonies.” God has always wanted His people to consider their ways. The prophet Haggai instructed the people to do so. The apostle Paul reminded the Corinthians to examine themselves. We are to do the same. Reading (Psalm 119) will be a great way for us to consider our ways. Can we say the same regarding God’s word as the Psalmist does? Where do we find ourselves excelling in the scriptures? What is a challenge for us when it comes to God’s word? Let us consider our ways this week as we read.
· Psalm 119:89: “Forever, O LORD, Your word is settled in heaven.” As we think about God’s word, we can take comfort knowing it is sure and steadfast. It is to be the standard in our lives. As we read (Psalm 119) let’s take the time to appreciate the power of God’s word!
